Dr Ross has been an ASVP member for forty years and has served on the management committee for thirty years as well as making 25 scientific presentations to ASVP conferences.

Tony helped develop the National Registry of Domestic Animal Pathology as Chair of the Management Committee and became its Scientific Coordinator. The Registry grew into the Australian Animal Pathology Standards Program and Tony served as Scientific Coordinator for many years until 2015, overseeing the annual Roadshows in each state and development of the online digital pathology slide collections.

As the founding Director of the Australian Division of the Davis-Thompson Foundation ( and a member of its international board of directors, Tony continues to contribute to the ASVP Management Committee in this capacity.

Tony had a long career as a diagnostic veterinary pathologist with NSW DPI and won the Australian Veterinary Association’s Seddon prize for work on Menangle virus – a newly discovered zoonotic virus of pigs.

He has also held academic positions at several universities (Lincoln, Glasgow, Illinois, Michigan, Royal Veterinary College, James Cook, Charles Sturt) and is currently Adjunct Professor of Veterinary Pathology at James Cook University. Tony has been working part time for several years and has now retired.
